Benson's Sea Story

     I grew up on the East Coast and as far back as I can remember, we had something that floated. My cousin, Greg, and I toured the New Jersey marsh aboard an abandoned oil tank. We then found an old wooden trunk and split it in half creating two kayaks. My first job at age 11 was working at a bait and tackle supply shop. The following year, I got a job working at a marina learning small engine repair and creating tackle and rigs.
     While boating and life on the water remained an important part of my life, I went into the profession of home building, becoming a master finish carpenter and earning my general contractor’s license (I'm still currently licensed in New Jersey and California). I enjoyed designing and building homes, but my love of boats and how they work has always been my strongest passion.  Becoming a captain and living aboard my vessel in Santa Barbara gave birth to BensonOnTheBoat. So to me, all the planets have aligned. I enjoy life in paradise and get to have my dream job. I am excited about troubleshooting problems and finding solutions. My history of doing finish work gives me an inherent high standard. I protect surfaces and your boat will be cleaner than when I arrived.  Being a certified ABYC technician means a lot to me. All of my work is compliant and well thought out. I’m fully insured, I love my job and look forward to it each day.
